About Our Opportunity


Under the general direction of the Manager, Operational Accounting, the Purchasing Technician will be responsible for the timely and accurate performance of a wide range of transactional procurement and accounts payable functions. The position requires working knowledge of the SAP Procurement Module and Accounts Payable, the Provincial Sustainable Procurement Policy and departmental guidelines. Purchasing transactions within the SAP accounting system include the creation of various SAP documents such as purchase requisitions, purchase orders, amendments, receiving reports, goods receipts, and service entries.


This position ensures appropriate documentation is complete and accurate following government policies and guidelines. The position communicates policies, guidelines and corporate financial system management expertise to client departments, management, and staff. Ensures services provided are timely, accurate and client inquiries are responded to in a timely, efficient, and satisfactory manner. Requirements of the position include daily interaction with the Transactional Services staff and frequent communication with internal clients of Operational Accounting.

Qualifications and Experience


Five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related training and experience may be acceptable. Post-secondary education with a focus in accounting/finance will be considered as an asset. The applicant should have working knowledge of the Nova Scotia government's procurement policies and guidelines (or related equivalent), as well as an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles as they relate to procurement and accounts payable issues. Comprehensive understanding of SAP procurement (or related equivalent) and accounts payable is essential.


The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to deal effectively with internal/external clients, as well as proficiency in the use of computers, including word processing (Word), databases, and e-mail (Outlook). The incumbent must be able to establish priorities, manage a demanding workload, use excellent communication and organizational skills, and be dependable. The ability to maintain confidentiality and enforce strict procedures is essential. They will also possess excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage large volumes of workflow while maintaining accuracy and meeting service level objectives as well as the ability to react and adjust positively to changes in work environment and in policies and procedures.

Working Conditions


Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

This is a full-time term position based in Halifax with anticipated end date of October 31, 2024 The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: CL 22

Salary Range: $1,924.59 - $2,128.70 Bi-Weekly
